Police in Kenya fire tear gas and arrest angry protesters

Several people have been arrested by the Police in Kenya for taking to the streets to protest. The protesters who also had tear gas fired at them were against the misuse of Covid-19 funds. The incident took place at Uhuru Park, in the capital Nairobi.

One of the protesters said 12 people had been arrested.

The protesters used the hashtag #ArrestCovid19Thieves as they demanded accountability on Covid-19 funds. The protest was provoked by reports of alleged misuse of funds and diversion of donations meant to combat the pandemic.

However, Kenyan government has denied misappropriating funds despite earlier calls for investigations.
