The president of the Republic of Cameroon Paul Biya has signed a decree convening the electoral colleges for the election of Regional CouncillorsCameroon’s maiden Regional Election to hold in December. The decree was signed in Yaounde, September 7th.
The elections convened for December 6th 2020, is expected to facilitate the proper decentralization of power in these regions.
Ninety regional councillors are expected to be elected in the North West region likewise the South West region of the country. It is in line with the special status that was offered these two English speaking regions of the country during the Major National dialogue that held in the country in 2019.
Regional councillors shall be delegates of division elected for a term of office of five years.
Campaigns for the election are expected to be opened fifteen days to the voting day. The regional election is the first of its kind in the Republic of Cameroon.
