Relatives made public her release during the early hours of Monday March 15.

The female journalist is a worker at the Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV, in the South West Region of Cameroon.

Fame Banyui was subjected to torture as a video of her under the kidnappers custody was released on social media. The wife and mother had to visit the hospital for checkup shortly after she was freed.

Journalism associations and colleagues had frowned at the act and took up the hashtag free Fame Bunyui Ayiseh before her release.

Since the start of unrest in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon in 2016, several kidnaps have been recorded and journalists have been victims in some cases.

It is hoped that journalists will stop being targeted as they go about their service to the society.
