The President of the steering Committee for the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions, Balungeli Confiance Ebune has commended the execution rate of projects in the North West, while urging the population to shun fear. He was speaking in Bamenda this March 28 while on a working visit with other members of the steering Committee to the region.

According to Balungeli Confiance who doubles as Director of Carbinet at the Prime Minister’s office, the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development, PPRD, is aimed at rebuilding and rehabilitating what existed or had been destroyed in the course of the crisis in the two English speaking regions of the country. As such, the cooperation of the population is required to achieve this to completion.
The implementing partner of the reconstruction plan, the United Nations Development Program, UNDP outlined the level of execution in the North West stating that over forty five projects have been carried out, involving the rehabilitation and equipment of thirty schools, seven health centres and eight water points powered by solar.
UNDP Coordinator for the North West stated that they faced difficulties in accessing some areas where projects had to be executed due to bad roads and insecurity.
To this effect, Balungeli Confiance urged the population of the North West Region to collaborate with stakeholders involved in the reconstruction plan for the development of their region. “Time has come where we should take our destinies into our hands…we take it or shy to the threats of those who don’t want development”. He stated.

The Mayors of Bamenda I, II and III appreciated the ongoing rehabilitation works going on in their municipalities, while pushing forward their request for more to be done.
Mayor Paul Achombang, of the Bamenda City Council appreciated the reconstruction plan for its role in ensuring that sustainable peace gradually returns to the North West Region. This he cited improved turnout of students in schools amongst others.

Full Gospel School in Nkwen, Bamenda III
The first day of the working visit of the steering Committee for the Presidential Plan of Reconstruction and Development in the North West Region ended with a tour through Bamenda III, Starting from the Water Treatment Centre in Mente then to the Full Gospel School in Nkwen. Accompanying this delegation was the Governor and his entourage, the President of the North West Regional Assembly, the SDO for Mezam, Mayors, Divisional Officers, Regional Delegates, traditional and religious authorities, amongst other officials.

The tour to other sites where reconstruction is ongoing in the region is expected to continue tomorrow March 29.
The Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions was born after the major national dialogue that held from September 30th to October 4th 2019.
